Stevie Hancox-Monk

Stevie Hancox-Monk (they/them) is a nonbinary actor, voice artist, and improviser currently based in Wellington, Aotearoa/New Zealand. Stevie is most known for their performance as Hamlet in David O’Donnell’s 2019 production of Hamlet, for which they were nominated for Outstanding Performance/Actor of the Year (Wellington Theatre Awards). Stevie is a co-creator of the comedy improv group Tiny Dog, which performs monthly at BATS Theatre. Stevie’s other recent works include The Griegol (Trick of the Light, Auckland Arts Festival 2021), HOLE (Lynda Chanwai-Earle), and the multi-award nominated work A Traveller’s Guide to Turkish Dogs. Stevie has performed internationally, in 2012 as a member of the NZ Young Shakespeare Company which performed at the Globe Theatre in London. In 2017, Stevie travelled to the Czech Republic to perform with the Prague Shakespeare Company in A Midsummer Night’s Dream (at Divadlo Na Prádle), directed by the internationally renowned Lisa Wolpe. Stevie has also worked with the UK’s Ben Crystaland David Crystal on performing Shakespeare with Original Pronunciation (Crystal Clear Shakespeare, 2017), and has trained in clowning with Mumbai’s Rupesh Tillu.
