Nick Zwart

Nick Zwart is a woodworker and installation artist based in Lyttelton, NZ. He graduated his MFA in 2020 and is a co-founder two artist led studio/workshop spaces in Wellington. His work stems from a Theatre background having worked in many facets of the performing arts; from Technical Manager to Programme Director at BATS Theatre to lecturing at both Massey University and Victoria University of Wellington in Spatial Design and Scenography respectively. Nick is a New Zealand delegate for the Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design and Space 2023. His practise is informed by an interest in performative mechanics and woodworking. These passions are informed by the conceptual, structural and material investigations into these materials and our shifting relationships to them.

With Trick of the Light he has worked on The Engine Room, Broken River, and The Devil’s Half-Acre.
